Measure for Measure
︎ Hellen Maybanks
This poster, together with The Merchant of Venice poster, is part of a series for the Winter Season 2021/22 that held significant importance for me, especially considering my limited budget.
Over the course of a couple of months, I dedicated my time to understanding the theatre's winter needs, albeit with guidelines that I knew I would soon modify.
When art-directing these series, I made the conscious decision to redistribute the visual weight, shifting it away from the central importance of the the logo in previous guidelines (which I won’t display here), to emphasize the image instead. I consciously retained some of the colours of the old colour palette, to make smoother the transition from black, white and red to full colour.
This play, a classic Shakespearean piece, was set in the style of a 70s thriller movie. The painted quality of this poster pays tribute to the cinema posters of that era.
